Sir Joseph Banks 1743-1820 Sailed to Australia with Captain Cook and transformed Kew Gardens into a Botanic Garden of world renown. His presidency of the Royal Society enabled him to promote the importance of botanic exploration and plant experimentation. He came from Lincolnshire and there is a garden at the Sir Joseph Banks Centre in Horncastle which includes some of the plants he brought back from his travels. You can also see Strulch on their raised beds in the courtyard garden. www.joseph-banks.org.uk
