Strulch Now In 50 Largest Tesco Stores

A Yorkshire organic gardening business is celebrating after Tesco snapped up its products to sell in supermarkets. Strulch, a mineralised straw mulch, has gone on sale in 50 of Tesco's biggest stores as part of its Responsible Living event, which is running for three weeks. Jackie Whiteley, who set up Strulch Ltd with her husband, Geoff, in 2004, gained the contract after a chance meeting with a Tesco director at an event by the Yorkshire business network group Forward Ladies. Mrs Whiteley, from Burley-in-Wharfedale, West Yorkshire, is also in talks with the supermarket's suppliers about trialling a new bio-degradable plant pot. She said: "It all happened so fast. Usually these things take a long time but they were really interested in what we had to sell." Etta Cohen, managing director of Forward Ladies, added: "We are delighted to have played a role in helping her business to flourish. Her success is a great example of how Forward Ladies can benefit women whatever their age, stage of career or entrepreneurial development." Forward Ladies is supported by Regional Development Agency Yorkshire Forward to encourage and support more businesswomen across the region
